Request

In 2020, how many people, whether prosecuted or not, were found to have deliberately committed benefit fraud?

Response

In 2020 (irrespective of the date a referral was received) eight people were found to have proven intent and therefore classed as deliberately committing benefit fraud.

During 2020, the number of cases where allegations of potential benefit fraud were reported to or identified by Customer and Local Services (CLS) was 450. These were either identified by CLS staff or through members of the public reporting potential fraud via the hotline 0800 735 1111 or via the website at this address: www.gov.je/benefitfraud All of these would have been reviewed by officers of the department to validate the allegations.
