Can you please provide me with statistics for Road traffic accidents and collisions for the years 2018, 2019 and 2020. Including class of vehicles, and in particular the speeds involved at the time of any accident or collision, for instance,
what is the figure or percentage of accidents that occurred at speeds up to 15mph
what is the figure or percentage of accidents that occurred at speeds up to 20mph
what is the figure or percentage of accidents that occurred at speeds between 5mph to 15mph
what is the figure or percentage of accidents that occurred at speeds between 20mph and 30mph
what is the figure or percentage of accidents that occurred at speeds between 30mph and 40mph
The States of Jersey police do not hold details of vehicle speeds for Road Traffic Collisions (RTC’s) reported to the police. In serious incidents where a fatality or life changing injury is caused, a specialist unit of accident investigators (AI) is deployed. Part of their role is to determine the speed of the vehicle(s) at the time of the incident. This is achieved by using any available evidence including, marks left on the road at the scene, CCTV from buildings or vehicles and witness evidence amongst other sources. Police do not hold the information for the speed of all RTC’s as requested above and therefore cannot give a percentage of accidents at various speeds.
The below table details those RTC’s where excessive speed was recorded as a contributing factor in the collision although this may be as a result of witness evidence and not corroborated. This is not a full list of incidents as not all RTC’s are witnessed.
Type of vehicle Year / Injury
|Motorcycle under 125cc |||||||||||||||
|Motorcycle over 125cc ||||(1)*||||1|||||||
*Also involved a car and included in car figures.
Those RTC’s investigated by the AI team are listed below. Sometimes it is not possible to determine the speed of the vehicle at the time of the RTC.
