Hospital clinical theatre staffing (FOI)

Hospital clinical theatre staffing (FOI)

Produced by the Freedom of Information office
Authored by Government of Jersey and published on 28 September 2021.
Prepared internally, no external costs.

Request

A

Regarding the General Hospital, please give the number of clinical theatre staff (including scrub nurses, theatre sisters, surgical first assistants, ODP staff, healthcare assistants, recovery staff, day surgery ward nurses and other clinical staff, surgeons, anaesthetists and other medical staff working principally in theatres) who have left their position (for any reason), prior to the age of 60, over the last 12 months. Please include a breakdown by type of employee as detailed above. Please include staff who are leaving their position to work elsewhere in the hospital or Health sector.

B

Regarding these theatre staff who have left their job, please outline how many of these staff members were interviewed or formally surveyed in order to know why they left.

C

Regarding scrub staff who assist surgeons (nurses and ODP staff who scrub), please outline briefly what flexible working options are available to new members of the team (ie to somebody applying for a current vacancy), especially as it relates to scrub staff who do not wish to work night shifts and weekends.

D

Please provide the ratio of full-time equivalent (FTE) consultant to non-consultant medical staff (this applies to doctors only) for the following Jersey General Hospital departments: Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Trauma & Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, (General + vascular + breast surgery), Psychiatry.

Please include currently vacant posts that are expected to be filled in your calculation.

For example, if a department comprises two full-time consultants, two half-time consultants, two full-time non-consultant career grade doctors, one foundation doctor on rotation, and one foundation doctor position that is vacant but advertised, the ratio would be 3:4, but this should please be reported in your table as 1:1.3 for easy comparison.

E

Please give the total number of individual locum doctors, of any grade, level, or specialty, who have worked for HCS (General hospital or at any other site) at any time, commencing 1 January 2021 up until the present date. Please do not include the same doctor twice if they have worked two separate periods.
