Import duty and GST for commodity codes 5101 to 5113 (FOI)

Import duty and GST for commodity codes 5101 to 5113 (FOI)

Produced by the Freedom of Information office
Authored by Government of Jersey and published on 08 October 2021.
Prepared internally, no external costs.

Request

Please can you provide details of the amount of revenue raised, for each of the last three financial years, from import duty and import GST (cited separately), for imports to Jersey under the thirteen UK (or, formerly EU) commodity codes 5101 to 5113.

Response

The table below shows a financial year running from 6 April to 5 April, therefore the data has been represented for those periods.

Import revenue for commodity codes 5101 to 5113

The data for the period 6 April 2018 – 31 December 2020 inclusive, captures third country imports excluding the EU, UK and Crown Dependencies.

It was not necessary to provide commodity codes for goods traded between the EU / UK / CDs during this period because Jersey was part of the EU under Protocol three allowing the free movement of goods. In the absence of commodity codes it is not possible to identify the specific goods listed in the request that came from EU / UK / CDs, therefore the amount of import GST charged cannot be ascertained.

The data for the period 1 January 2021 to 5 April 2021 inclusive, captures third country imports including the EU (post BREXIT).

It was not necessary to provide commodity codes for goods traded between the UK and Jersey during this period because goods move freely by virtue of the Jersey-UK Customs Arrangement. The amount of import GST charged on the specific goods listed in the request from the UK cannot be ascertained for the same reason outlined above.

Please note that the commodity codes are already in the public domain:
