Covid-19 testing of variants ((FOI)

Covid-19 testing of variants ((FOI)

Produced by the Freedom of Information office
Authored by Government of Jersey and published on 21 October 2021.
Prepared internally, no external costs.

I refer to a previous Freedom of Information response published at the following link:

Testing for COVID-19 variants (FOI)

Please clarify the below for me.

Who is responsible for testing said variants in Jersey?

Has anyone in Jersey had any said variants?

Does the government have access to variant information? (Number of people, what variant) If not, what information is the government using to base their Covid laws / restrictions on? (Not who but what information.)

Micropathology Ltd and Public Health England (PHE) are responsible for testing variants in Jersey. Both undertake the work in the UK on behalf of Jersey.

Yes. A number of samples are selected for genomic sequencing each week and results for those samples are made available to the appropriate teams within government.
