Importation of pesticides (FOI)

Importation of pesticides (FOI)

Produced by the Freedom of Information office
Authored by Government of Jersey and published on 22 October 2021.
Prepared internally, no external costs.

Request

Please provide any information available in regard to;

The amount of all pesticides imported into Jersey, by year, over the past five years, including;

  • type of pesticide (herbicide; fungicide, and so on)

  • manufacturer and name of product

  • active ingredient

  • quantity imported per year of each

  • purpose (eg domestic use; sports facilities; agricultural activity, crop type, and so on)

Response

Please find attached a spreadsheet with details of all pesticides imported into Jersey for the last five full years (2015 to 2020), with details of the active ingredient, product name, MAFF / MAPP number, the weight or volume of the product and whether it is for commercial or amateur use.

Pesticides

Please note that the total weight represents the weight of product and not the weight of the active ingredient. This is relevant as many amateur products are in made up solutions as opposed to many commercial products that are not. Amateur products are also generally of lower strength than commercial products. There is no amateur data for 2020.

Commercial use is defined as imports by pesticide merchants ie use by agriculture, landscape gardeners and other commercial firms. Amateur use is defined as products sold by retail outlets and garden centres.

Information about the type of pesticide (herbicide / fungicide and so on) and agricultural activity / crop is not held and Article 10 of the Freedom of information (Jersey) law 2011 therefore applies.
