Produced by the Freedom of Information office
Authored by Government of Jersey and published on 24 November 2021.
Prepared internally, no external costs.

Request

A

Has the DEXA scan facility been moved or removed?

B

If DEXA has been moved, where has it gone and is it still a free service if prescribed by a hospital consultant?

C

If that has been removed, where is DEXA scanning done now, by whom and at what cost?

  • As a GP referral

  • As a private appointment

D

How will those on low incomes and income support needing a DEXA scan be expected to pay?

Response

A

No. It is still at Overdale.

B

Please refer to (A) and (C).

C

DEXA scanning is currently only available via private radiology services and the current rate charged per appointment is £90, which will be the standard cost regardless of referral pathway.

The public service is due to resume via Health and Community Services shortly.

D

For those who have low income or are in receipt of Income Support, an application can be made to Customer and Local Services for consideration of a Special Payment to cover the cost of a DEXA scan.
