Cost of collecting commercial data on French boats (FOI)

Cost of collecting commercial data on French boats (FOI)

Produced by the Freedom of Information office
Authored by Government of Jersey and published on 29 November 2021.
Prepared internally, no external costs.

Request

How much has the states spent collecting commercial data on French boats to provide the French licences when they didn’t have much data?

Response

The majority of the vessels with AIS track records in Jersey had already submitted sufficient evidence through the official channels to be granted a licence.

However, the Marine Resources section of Infrastructure, Housing and Environment, spent €2,159 (Euro) for archived commercial AIS records (satellite data positioning) to check submissions to determine whether vessels should be granted / refused a licence.

Government of Jersey has not recorded the administration time spent in relation to the issuing of fishing licences to French vessels, as this is considered to be a ‘business as usual’ function. Therefore, this information is not held and Article 10 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 applies.

Article applied

Article 10 - Obligation of scheduled public authority to confirm or deny holding information

(1) Subject to paragraph (2), if –

(a) a person makes a request for information to a scheduled public authority; and

(b) the authority does not hold the information, it must inform the applicant accordingly.
