My query is about the States of Jersey Police Online Reporting Portal, at

States of Jersey Police Online Reporting Portal

Online Reporting Portal States of Jersey Police

Please provide the following data:

A

How many online reports included user uploaded video footage?

B

Of those online reports with user uploaded video footage, how many resulted in prosecutions?

Response

A

The facility to receive video uploads as part of online reports has been available since April 2020, although the portal

States of Jersey Police Online Reporting Portal

has only been in operation since September 2021. Prior to that, a third party custom solution was used. The total number of such video uploads between April 2020 and the date of research (12 January 2022) is 97.

B

The total number of online reports received since April 2020 where video footage has featured, and where one or more prosecutions have resulted is two. A further two are currently subject of live investigation.

It should be noted that a prosecution is the ultimate sanction, and may not be appropriate in many cases. There may be insufficient evidence available to support a prosecution, the complainant may decline to attend court, or the report may relate to a matter other than a crime. In such cases it may be more appropriate to provide an individual with verbal advice about an alleged minor infraction of the law.
