Deaths in psychiatric care (FOI)

Deaths in psychiatric care (FOI)

Request

Please enlighten me the number of deaths in Jersey psychiatric care in 2021 to include all wards

Eg Cedar Ward Orchard House etc and if a person in psychiatric care died after being transferred to the ICU then include that data.

Also if this can be done on a monthly basis eg 2 in January and one in February and to include genders and cause of death.

If the cause of death causes too much work then just for August 2021.

Response

In 2021, nine deaths were recorded on mental health wards.

As the numbers are small, Health and Community Services is unable to break down this figure by month, gender or cause of death. Therefore, Article 25 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied to protect the privacy of individuals.

Article Applied

Article 25  - Personal Information

1) Information is absolutely exempt information if it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2005.

(2) Information is absolutely exempt information if –

(a) it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is not the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2005; and

(b) its supply to a member of the public would contravene any of the data protection principles, as defined in that Law.
