Single use pens (FOI)

Single use pens (FOI)

Produced by the Freedom of Information office
Authored by Government of Jersey and published on 23 June 2022.
Prepared internally, no external costs.

Request

How many single-use pens (including biros) were purchased by Government of Jersey in the calendar year 2021? If possible, please break down by department eg. transport, health, education etc. This question refers to all pens other than fountain pens, but not to board markers or felt-tip pens.

Response

The generic term for single use pens encompasses a wide range of products from general stationery items to highly specialist equipment or tools, for example hospital skin marker pens. The transactional information held could encompass various descriptions of pen purchases across many differing suppliers and therefore would require analysis of individual purchase order lines to obtain the specific details.

To extract the information requested would exceed the cost limit provisions under Article 16 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 and the 12.5 hours limit allowed under regulation 2 (1) of the Freedom of Information (Costs) (Jersey) Regulations 2014.

Article applied

Article 16 - A scheduled public authority may refuse to supply information if cost excessive

(1) A scheduled public authority that has been requested to supply information may refuse to supply the information if it estimates that the cost of doing so would exceed an amount determined in the manner prescribed by Regulations.
