Request

Hi, I would like to know how many Portuguese Citizens are in Jersey, of which how many are from Mainland, Madeira Archipelago and from Azores Archipelago.

Response

The 2021 Census asked about country of birth rather than citizenship (i.e., the passport that someone holds), therefore the information as requested is not held by the Government of Jersey. Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 applies.

The 2021 Census bulletin 1 details, on page 7, the place of birth of Jersey residents:

Article applied

Article 3 - Meaning of "information held by a public authority"

For the purposes of this Law, information is held by a public authority if –

(a) it is held by the authority, otherwise than on behalf of another person; or

(b) it is held by another person on behalf of the authority.
