Request

What procedures are in place for when an electric vehicle catches fire?

Response

States of Jersey Fire and Rescue Service do not have specific procedures in place for dealing with fires involving electric vehicles, therefore standard procedures are adopted that prioritise saving life, protecting property and the environment.

In the case of electric vehicle fires this is achieved via application of copious amounts of water to limit fire spread. If no risk to life or property, allowing the vehicle to burn is a viable option if that would have a lesser impact on the environment.
