Request

How long is the waiting list for bariatric surgery?

Response

There are currently 58 public patients who meet the criteria for bariatric surgery awaiting their operation. It is anticipated that there should be capacity to complete 30 to 40 procedures in 2023.

At present, everyone currently on the waiting list should have their surgery within two years and new patients joining the waiting list will have a projected wait of two years for their surgery.

Surgery is prioritised according to urgency, which results in some patients undergoing surgery ahead of others that have been waiting for a longer period. Patients with cardiac disease or diabetes are considered a high priority.
