Please therefore accept this email as my right to request the following information:

  1. Since the recent introduction of the law requiring people to wear safety helmets when cycling, how many offences have been recorded.
  2. Of these how many resulted in prosecution.
  3. How much did it cost the relevant department(s) to draft and introduce this new law from inception to enactment.

Response

  1. The States of Jersey Police have recorded no offences of children 13 and under riding pedal cycles without helmets since the introduction of the law in October 2014.
  2. N/A
  3. The cost of drafting specific pieces of legislation is not information held by the Law Drafting Office and the Law Officers’ Department does not currently fall under the Freedom of Information Law. The introduction of such legislation is aimed at promoting road safety, not increasing prosecutions.
