Request

I would like to request the following information:

How many women in Jersey received a diagnosis for endometriosis in:

A

2022

B

2021

C

2020

D

2019

E

2018

Response

Figures for the number of cases of endometriosis in Jersey are not held. Therefore, Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 applies.

In order to diagnose endometriosis accurately women are required to have a laparoscopy. However, there are numerous women who probably have endometriosis due to their symptoms, but who have not had a diagnosis confirmed at laparoscopy.

Furthermore, there may be women who have moved to Jersey who have been diagnosed in other jurisdictions, and women who have endometriosis who are managed in primary care, who have never been referred to secondary care for management of their symptoms. GP services in Jersey are private businesses and, as such, their data is not held by Health and Community Services.
