Film funding (FOI)
Film funding (FOI)Produced by the Freedom of Information office
Authored by Government of Jersey and published on 03 April 2023.
Prepared internally, no external costs.
There are currently two films in development or pre-production by Jersey writers about the artists, step-sisters and former Jersey residents Lucy Schwob and Suzanne Malherbe (aka Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore):
- Claude by Hannah Patterson, in development with the BFI.
- Trespassers by Jonathan Socrates, announced in the media in August 2022 as expected to film in Jersey and France in spring 2023 and billed to star Vanessa Paradis and Nina Hoss.
Has the Government of Jersey provided funding to either or both of these two film projects, and if so, how much, in which year and from which government budget(s)?
Has the Government of Jersey pledged future funding to either or both of these two film projects, and if so, how much and from which government budget(s) will this be taken?
If the Government of Jersey has paid or pledged funding to either or both of these two film projects, as in questions A and B above, could you tell me what conditions and provisos are attached to this funding?
Has the Government of Jersey provided or pledged any in-kind or other type of support to either or both of these two film projects, and if so, what are the terms and nature of this support?
The Department for the Economy awarded the Claude project a grant of £8,760 in 2022.
The Government of Jersey has received an expression of interest for financial support for the Trespassers film. Having reviewed the initial request in a positive manner, a full business case has been requested that is yet to be fully considered and a decision made by Government.
Grant funding was provided to the Claude project to support specific pre-production costs.
Please see response to B above.
