Licensing law consultation (FOI)

Licensing law consultation (FOI)

Produced by the Freedom of Information office
Authored by States of Jersey and published on 29 February 2016.

Request

States of Jersey Licensing Law Consultation.

I have to say I am perplexed about the necessity for a New Authority which we were told at the last consultation meetings (all of which I attended) was not going to form part of the new law.

Under the freedom of information law can you please tell me who proposed and or influenced the change of direction in this regard. The cost of running this new body is going to cost the taxpayer and or the licensing trade £60,000. This in my opinion is an unnecessary and extravagant cost.

Response

The decision to create the new authority as consulted upon was taken on 12 January 2016 by the Shadow Alcohol and Licencing Policy Group (SALPG).

The APLG will be the decision-making body dealing with strategy around liquor licensing in the future, and it is currently sitting in its ‘shadow’ form to develop the new licensing law prior to its introduction.

The members present were:

  • Assistant Chief Minister, Senator Paul Routier MBE (Chair)
  • Minister for Health and Social Services, Senator Andrew Green MBE
  • Assistant Minister for Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture, Connétable Steve Pallet
  • Assistant Minister for Home Affairs, Connétable Deirdre Mezbourian
