Road fatalities 2013 to 2023 causes (FOI)

Produced by the Freedom of Information office
Authored by Government of Jersey and published on 21 June 2023.
Prepared internally, no external costs.

Request

What roads have there been road traffic accidents where somebody has died as a result for at least the last 10 years, and of these what was the proven cause (if known), for example, speed, careless driving, medical incident and so on?

Also, what was the speed limits on said roads.

Response

Please see the attached spreadsheet for details of the date and time, road name, Parish and contributory factors for each road traffic collision (RTC) where there has been a fatality since 2013. The contributory factors cannot necessarily be deemed to be the proven cause.

Table.xlsx

The four most recent RTCs are all the subjects of live investigations with reports either prepared or in the process of being prepared for the Deputy Viscount in order that he may hold an inquest to determine cause of death. Article 24(3) of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has therefore been applied to the four most recent incidents.

Speed limits for individual roads are publicly accessible on the Jersey Law website in the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (Jersey) Order 2003. Article 23 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has therefore been applied. Please see the following link:
