Response

The following tables detail vacancy data for Health and Community Services (HCS), as identified from the finance system records for May 2023. Figures are shown as Whole Time Equivalents (WTEs), except for the vacancy rate, which is shown as a percentage. All figures are rounded to the nearest whole number.

Total vacancy figures across HCS:

Since October 2022, HCS have had an increase in total funded establishment posts of 119 WTE, as new roles have been agreed and introduced into the establishment.

During this corresponding timeframe, HCS have seen an increase in headcount of 61 people, and an increase in vacancies of 57 WTE.

The tables below show the increase in funded establishment in the clinical staff groups resulting from approved business cases and Government Plan growth funding for 2023, and the corresponding increase of staff in post. Changes to the Civil Servant and Manual Worker pay groups’ funded establishment and staffing figures are also detailed.

It is important to recognise that the Civil Servant pay group includes Allied Health Professional clinical roles, such as physiotherapists, pharmacists, Occupational Therapists and social workers. Additionally, as noted in a Freedom of Information response published to www.gov.je in June 2023, HCS do not have dedicated management departments. Non-clinical managers, administrative and support staff are encompassed within the Civil Servant and Manual Worker pay groups.
