A consultation period relating to proposals to amend speed limits on a large number of roads in the Island, centred around villages in rural parishes was launched on 12 June 2023.

With relation to the area in St John's village where the limit is proposed to be reduced to 20mph, including but not limited to La Route des Issues, La Route de St John, La Route du Mont Mado and La Route du Nord, please could you provide a yearly breakdown of the following for each of the years between 2018 and 2023, inclusive;

The number of road traffic accidents

B

The number of these accidents where speed was determined to be a contributing factor

C

The number of these accidents where alcohol was determined to be a contributing factor

D

The number of these accidents where a pedestrian was involved

E

The number of these accidents where a cyclist was involved

F

The number of these accidents where a car was involved

G

The number of these accidents where any other type of motor vehicle was involved

H

The number of these accidents where multiple parties were involved

I

Could you also provide me with statistics for the number of prosecutions resulting from speeding on these roads, by year for the same period (2018 to 2023).

Please could these be broken down into those that occurred between the hours of 8am to 8pm and 8pm to 8am.

Response

To respond to this request, data from the following roads in St John’s Village listed in the consultation Speed Limit Review Survey  have been analysed. These are:

  • La Route du Nord (where the speed limit is currently 30mph)
  • La Route do Mont Mado (where the speed limit is currently 30mph)
  • La Route des Issues (where the speed limit is currently 30mph)
  • La Route de la Mare Ballam (where the speed limit is currently 30mph)
  • La Poute de St Jean east of La Route du Nord and on the approach to the junction
  • La Route de L’Etocquet east of La Rue du Cimetiere
  • Les Clicquards
  • Les Tuiles
  • Le Clos de L’Ecole
  • La Route du Temple
  • La Rue de la Ville Guyon

The data requested is shown on the attachment and is based on the number of road traffic collisions reported to the States of Jersey Police. Not all collisions may have been reported.
