Please advise how many GST registered businesses there are in Jersey.  How many of those are overseas retailers and how many are non-overseas retailers?

Please advise how many of those are GST registered voluntarily, that is under the £300,000 threshold?

C

Please advise how many imported products were stopped at customs for GST in 2022 and the total amount of GST charged accordingly?

A

As of July 2023, there were 2,437 active GST registrations. The breakdown requested is not held by the Government of Jersey, Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 applies.

Of the 36 registrations from overseas retailers received this year, 15 were voluntary registrations.

Jersey’s Customs and Immigration Service (JCIS) are only able provide the number of consignments received. It is not possible to breakdown the number of products contained in each consignment. In 2022, 175,438 consignments were stopped by JCIS pending GST payment. £6.3m was collected by JCIS in respect of these consignments.

For the purposes of this Law, information is held by a public authority if –

(a)     it is held by the authority, otherwise than on behalf of another person; or

(b)     it is held by another person on behalf of the authority.
