Request

Please advise how many ambulance staff were employed, and how many ambulances were available in 2010, compared to 2022 and 2023.

Response

The information for 2010 is not held and therefore Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 applies. As the information is not held it is not possible to provide comparable data.

The nearest year data is held after 2010 is 2016. There were 67.42 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) employees, however this also included Control Centre staff that are not included in the 2023 data.

Current FTE is 70.43.

In 2016 there were three emergency ambulances in the day and two at night. There was one intermediary ambulance between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

In 2023 there are three emergency ambulances in the day and two at night. There is one intermediary ambulance between 9am to 11pm seven days per week and a Leading Ambulance Paramedic from 7am until 3am in a response car. In addition, the Ambulance Service has received funding to achieve a fourth emergency ambulance in the day and third for the busiest part of the evening / night aligned to demand.

When additional staff are available, they are assigned to additional vehicles.
