Emigrant figures since 2018 (FOI)

Emigrant figures since 2018 (FOI)

Produced by the Freedom of Information office
Authored by Government of Jersey and published on 23 October 2023.
Prepared internally, no external costs.

Request

Please provide figures for the number of people who have uprooted from Jersey to go and live elsewhere since 2018. Please break down the figures as follows:

  • Number of individuals of retirement age plus;
  • Number of adult individuals with no dependent children; and
  • Number of families with children still in education.

Response

The information required to answer this request is not held.

There is no single channel by which government comprehensively collects information on people leaving the island. It is not possible therefore to give definitive total numbers of all customers who have advised they are leaving or have left the island. It is also not possible to breakdown by age or whether they have children or not.

The Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 does not require a Scheduled Public Authority to manipulate or create new data sets in order to provide a response. Article 10 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 therefore applies.

However, this information in response to a previous Freedom of Information request may be helpful:

Article applied

Article 10 - Obligation of scheduled public authority to confirm or deny holding information

(1) Subject to paragraph (2), if –

(a) a person makes a request for information to a scheduled public authority; and

(b) the authority does not hold the information, it must inform the applicant accordingly.
