The table below provides the amount, spent on insurance and fuel to insure the States of Jersey Police Department vehicles broken down by year.

It should be noted that the central insurance premium charged to the States of Jersey Police was £18,119 for the years requested, however, this amount includes all insurance items, not only vehicle insurance. 

The Government of Jersey systems are not configured to extract the requested vehicle insurance information. Therefore, the requested information is not held and Article 10 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 applies.

Additional insurance costs specifically tagged to vehicles have been included in the figures for 2019, 2021 and 2022.

B

The insurance cost for 2024 is predicted to be similar to the 2023 figure shown in the above table, however this information is not currently held and Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 applies.

It should be noted that the Police also have some covert vehicles that are not included on the insurance costs provided.

The amount spent on fuel for 2023  for the States of Jersey Police vehicles was £44,648.84. 

The fuel cost information for 2024 is not currently held and Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 applies. 

It is predicted, however, that the fuel cost for 2024 will be lower, as four of the Police diesel vans are due to be replaced with electric vehicles.

Article 3 Meaning of “information held by a public authority”

For the purposes of this Law, information is held by a public authority if –

(a)     it is held by the authority, otherwise than on behalf of another person; or

(b)     it is held by another person on behalf of the authority.

Article 10 - Obligation of scheduled public authority to confirm or deny holding information

(1) Subject to paragraph (2), if –

(a) a person makes a request for information to a scheduled public authority; and

(b) the authority does not hold the information, it must inform the applicant accordingly.​
