Please advise if the products sold to prisoners are out of date or close to the best before date.  If so, please advise as to why this is.

A King Pot Beef and Tomato, for example,cost £1.61 compared to the supermarkets charging £1.49 and can be found on offer.  What is the reason for the higher prices?

Which suppliers does the prison use?

Are prison staff allowed to eat the food that is brought in for prisoners and can they purchase food from the canteen at a reduced price? Or the same price?

Are the prison staff allowed to use inappropriate language to inmates?

How many prison staff have been disciplined for inappropriate behaviour towards inmates?

Why are the vending machines out of order in the visitors’ room?

H

Why are prison staff allowed to wear hats? Visitors have to take their hats off?

No item would be served or sold if passed its use by date.

All stock is purchased through approved suppliers and sold at Recommended Retail Price with GST added.

The prison use suppliers registered on the Government of Jersey Ariba Connect Finance system.

All staff can purchase foods from the daily menu or have an option to purchase items from the Canteen at the same price as a prisoner would pay.

Without a specific timeframe to this question it can be confirmed that, in the last two years, no Prison Staff have been subject to the Government of Jersey Disciplinary procedure for inappropriate behaviour towards prisoners. Any issues related to alleged assaults or excessive use of force are reported directly to the Police.

Vending machines are currently not active in the Visits Room due to security reasons which are reviewed regularly.

Uniformed Prison staff follow the SoJ Prison Service Uniform Policy and are allowed to wear hats.  Visitors must remove outer coats, scarfs, and hats for security reasons.​
