Request

In Autumn 2023 a consultation was launched titled "Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme user consultation".

A

Please confirm what aspects are being reviewed.

B

Please advise if there is a set completion date for this review to be completed?

C

Please advise if there is a set completion date for any decision to become law?

Response

A

The current scheme dates from an Act of the States made in 1991 and has become outdated in many respects. All aspects of the scheme are under review, including but not limited to:

  • calculation of compensation
  • method of application
  • scope and extent of scheme
  • the system of decision making

B

There is not currently a date set. There is a recognition that the scheme needs to be updated, however there are a number of priorities competing for limited resources, and a revised scheme will be progressed as resources become available.

C

Not at this time.
