Please provide the following data in respect of HIV diagnoses and treatment in Jersey for each year over the period 2018 to 2023.

A

The number of people in Jersey recorded as living with HIV.

B

The number of people newly diagnosed as HIV positive.

C

The number of people in Jersey using PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) since it became available in Jersey in 2022. 

D

The total annual cost of HIV treatment in Jersey in from.

E

The total annual cost of PreP in 2022 and 2023.

A

Records available for those known to Health and Community Services in each year (having some form of interaction with the service), from 2018 to 2023, are detailed in Table 1 (attached).

Figures for 2023 have been derived through new reporting methodology. For comparison and assurance, analysis of 2023 data was also completed using the historic reporting and numbers saw a proportionate increase. It is considered that data for previous years did not capture all individuals, and that numbers for these years are undercounted.

The ratio of 1.5 per 1000 population is similar to that reported by Public Health England. More information on prevalence can be found at the following link:

New diagnoses recorded by Health and Community Services per annum, from 2018 to 2023, are detailed in Table 2 (attached). Where numbers are small, disclosure control has been applied to protect the privacy of individuals and numbers fewer than five are represented as ‘<5’. Article 25 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied.

D and E

Total costs of medications used in the treatment of HIV per annum, from 2018 to 2023, are detailed in Table 3 (attached). This includes post-exposure prophylaxis. Costs of pre-exposure prophylaxis cannot be reported upon, as they are from standard stock.
