Response

The figures below relate to applications under the Matrimonial Causes (Jersey) Law 1949 and the Children (Jersey) Law 2002 being heard by the Family Division of the Royal Court. 

A

A total of 440 new cases went through the Family Division in 2022 and 2023.

2022 – 61 Children Law applications and 169 Matrimonial Causes Law applications.

2023 – 49 Children Law applications and 161 Matrimonial Causes Law applications.

29 full residency orders were granted in 2022 and 2023.

23 (79.3%) were granted to the mother and 6 (20.7%) were granted to the father.

2022 – 20 granted (75%) to mothers and (25%) to fathers.

2023 – 9 were granted (89%) to mothers and (11%) to fathers.

​There were 53 contact applications in the family court in 2022 and 2023.

69.8% of the applicants were male and 30.2% of the applicants were female.

2022 – 26 applications, 76.9% male and 23.1% female.

2023 – 27 applications 63% male and 37% female

There were 10 applications for shared residence filed by fathers in 2022 and 2023. 19 fathers were granted shared residence.

2022 – 6 applications filed by fathers and 13 shared residence orders were granted to fathers.

2023 – 4 applications filed by fathers and 6 fathers were granted shared residence, 1 application is ongoing.

The average age of the child in new cases opened in 2022 and 2023 was 8.​
