Prepared internally, no external costs.

Request

A

Please advise how many teachers employed by the Government of Jersey have second jobs.

B

What are the protocols for teachers having second jobs?  Do they need to apply to a Government of Jersey department for approval to get a second job?

C

Are the effects of time spent at secondary jobs negligible to their primary jobs at teachers and is this taken into consideration by the Government of Jersey?

Response

A

An assumption has been made that the second job is an external job outside of the Government of Jersey.

Data on secondary employment is not held in recorded form. To provide a response would require extraction and manipulation of data to produce new information.

Under the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011, a Scheduled Public Authority is not required to manipulate and create new data sets in order to respond. Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 applies.

B

“You must not, either directly or indirectly, be engaged or concerned in any other service or business whatsoever (whether paid or unpaid), or receive commission or profits of any kind, without the prior consent of the Employer or your Chief Officer/nominee (as appropriate).”

Teachers who wish to undertake secondary employment, need to seek approval from their Headteacher.

C

Secondary employment is only approved if it has no negative impact on their primary role.
