Request

A

Please provide, for each calendar year since 2018, the amount spent by the Government of Jersey on medications specifically used to treat Type 2 Diabetes.

B

Please provide, for each calendar year since 2018, the costs associated to treating patients suffering with Type 2 Diabetes outside of medication for example costs for consultations, eye care, amputations, walkers, mobility aids, dentistry for gum disease and so forth.

C

How much is budgeted for treatment of Type 2 Diabetes and associated diseases in future years from 2024 in the health care budget?

Response

A

The indication for a medication is not detailed against the prescription. Additionally, many medicines used in the treatment of Type II Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) are also used for other indications. For these reasons, it is not possible to attribute costs of medication specifically used to treat T2DM from records available. Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 applies.

B

Cost data for patient-level activity for treatment of those with T2DM is not currently available, and Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 applies. Work is ongoing to identify patient-level and disease-specific costs as part of the Public Health Diabetes Strategy.

C

Health and Community Services’ (HCS’) Diabetes Service provides care and treatment for all forms of diabetes. The allocated budget is for the whole service provision. No monies are isolated solely for T2DM. The total budget for HCS’ Diabetes outpatient services in 2024 is £2,424,396.
