Request

We currently live in Grouville. Our child did not get allocated a reception place within our catchment due to it being overprescribed. Currently awaiting an appeal. Would like to know class sizes and availability of primary schools within the area I live. For example Grouville, St Clement and St Martin.

Response

Following the completion of the reception appeals process in May 2016 for children starting school in September 2016, class sizes and availability at the schools listed above is as follows:

Primary SchoolNumber of reception classesNumber of reception children to be admitted in September 2016 (per class)TotalAvailability
Grouville230600
St Martin130300
St Clement127270*

*The published maximum class size for a primary school form in Jersey is 26 children. However, there are provisions for numbers to exceed this limit if certain conditions are met.

Additional places, beyond the published maximum of 26, have been allocated in all these reception classes for September 2016, in accordance with the relevant Education Department policy, which can be found at:

After completion of the reception appeal process, 27 children have been allocated a place at St Clement’s School for the 2016 / 2017 academic year.

However, this class has now been capped at 26 places for future admissions, meaning that two children would need to leave before the school could accept a new admission to this class.
