Please can you respond to my following request for information.

Q:

Over the last 5 years how many litigant in person, that is people who bring a claim in court

without being represented by a lawyer (a solicitor or advocate) have successfully achieved

their Order of Justice?

Thank you.

Response

Order of Justice information in respect of litigant in person data is not recorded in a way that

allows statistics to be produced other that by manually searching all civil cases heard

individually. This would significantly exceed the cost allowed under the Freedom of

Information (Costs) (Jersey) Regulations 2014. Article 16 of the Freedom of Information

(Jersey) Law 2011 therefore applies.

Response

Despite reducing the time span requested, production of the statistics requested would still significantly exceed the cost allowed under the Freedom of Information (Costs) (Jersey) Regulations 2014.

We have calculated that allowing a conservative estimated time of 10 minutes per case to manually review the outcomes for each litigant, this response would take in excess of 80 hours. Article 16 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has therefore again been applied.
