Please could I request the following information about Clare’s Law and the new domestic abuse law.
A
The number of Clare’s Law applications made since the scheme was introduced in Jersey.
B
The number of disclosures made as a result of those applications.
C
A breakdown of the above figures by year and, if possible, by gender.
D
The number of reports made to police under the Domestic Abuse Law since it came into effect in 2023.
E
The number of arrests made under the law.
F
The number of prosecutions or charges brought under the law to date.
If possible, please provide the information up to the most recent month for which data is available.

Updated numbers from October 2023 and each subsequent year including after the new awareness campaign for Clare’s Law in November 2024, up to the date of your request are shown on the table attached.

It should be noted that the majority of domestic violence disclosures are as a result of proactive policing rather than in response to an enquiry by a member of the public. The statistics attached reflect responses to for both.
A disclosure can be rejected where it is determined that it would be disproportionate and contrary to human rights, particularly Article 8: Right to a private life or if the recipient refuses to accept the information.
Disclosures are not confined to partners in a relationship. For example, States of Jersey Police would consider making a disclosure to a housemate where it is considered necessary and proportionate.

(1) Information is absolutely exempt information if it is reasonably available to the applicant, otherwise than under this Law, whether or not free of charge.
(2) A scheduled public authority that refuses an application for information on this ground must make reasonable efforts to inform the applicant where the applicant may obtain the information.​
