Why did the French fishermen only get fined 1500 what was the maximum amount they could have been fined for fishing in jersey waters without a licence ?

Response

The Judicial Greffe can confirm that the French Fisherman was charged under Article 9(3) of the Sea Fisheries (Jersey) Law 1994. Pursuant to Article 29 (4) of this law, the maximum penalty is a fine at level 3 of the standard scale. Details of the standard scale can be found at Criminal justice (standard scale of fines) (Jersey) Law 1993

Fines are set at the discretion of the Court taking all relevant factors into account.
