Response
1
As noted in a Freedom of Information response published to www.gov.je in February 2024, it is not possible to provide figures for the number of people diagnosed with an eating disorder each year, as details of date of diagnosis for those under the care of the service are not available to report from a central record, though this information will be documented within an individual’s care records. As records are not held in a format that allows for the requested information to be discerned without manual interrogation, and as examining the individual records of all service users across the timeframe to identify the information would exceed the timescales prescribed in the Freedom of Information (Costs) (Jersey) Regulations 2014, Article 16 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied.
Annual figures for those accessing treatment for eating disorders through the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) in 2020 can be found in the Freedom of Information response linked below:

Additionally, snapshot caseload figures for prior years have been provided in previous Freedom of Information responses, including the February 2024 response referenced above. Links are provided below to relevant published data:

As of the end of June 2025, the number of patients with an open involvement within the CarePartner client record system for the Eating Disorder Pathway of Care is as follows:
These figures will not include those who have received care and are now closed to the service (historic input), or those who have been diagnosed privately or in other jurisdictions and are not yet known / not open to the service, including those who have arrived in Jersey with a diagnosis who have never been referred for care.
2 and 3
In 2022, a new process was established for the authorisation, monitoring and review of all off-island placements. Prior to 2022, records for off-island placement were not split by diagnosis type, and it is not possible to report the number of people treated specifically for eating disorders in 2020 and 2021, nor the associated costs.
Total off-island mental health placement numbers and costs for 2020 and 2021 can be found in the Freedom of Information responses linked below:
gov.je/government/freedomofinformation/pages/foi.aspx?ReportID=7838
gov.je/government/freedomofinformation/pages/foi.aspx?ReportID=6292
8 individuals have been treated off-island for eating disorders from 2022. As numbers are small, a breakdown by year of referral or age group cannot be provided, as individuals may be identifiable. Article 25 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied to protect the privacy of individuals.
Annual data for the number of people treated for an eating disorder in an off-island placement from 2022 to 2024, and costs for this, are detailed in the table below. The total number of people who were in an off-island placement during the year is provided. Individuals may be recorded in multiple years.
Year | Individuals placed | Annual costs (£)
|
2022 | 5 | 1,365,587 |
2023 | 7
| 1,673,809 |
2024 | 7 | 1,492,057
|
Fewer than five people have been treated in an off-island placement from January 2025 to June 2025, with running costs calculated at £537,183.
