1. How many people have been convicted of carrying a firearm with criminal intent (Art 40 firearms Jersey Law) between 2000 and 2025?

2. Of those convictions; a) how many related to an actual firearm (ie not deactivated, replica or blank firing); and b) what type/calibre (ie rifle, pistol, shotgun or air weapon) was used; and c) did the individual concerned possess a valid firearm certificate for it at the time of the offence?

3.How many people have been convicted of recklessly discharging a firearm (Art 44 Firearms Jersey Law) between 2000 and 2025?

4.what were the types of firearms used in these offences and did the user have a valid firearms certificate for the firearm used in the commission of the offence?

5.Between 2000 and 2025 How many homicides and serious injuries were caused as a result of firearms in Jersey and what type of firearm was used?

6. During the same period how many people in Jersey were a) killed and b ) seriously injured due to road traffic collisions?

Response

1. States of Jersey Police can confirm that four people have been convicted of carrying a firearm with criminal intent under Article 40 Firearms (Jersey) Law 2000 between 2000 - 2025.

2. Please see attached (Table 1) that shows how many incidents related to an actual firearm. The type/calibre of firearm and if the individual held a valid firearms certificate.

3. States of Jersey Police can confirm that there have been no convictions for recklessly discharging a firearm (Article 44 (Jersey) Firearms Law 2000) between 2000 - 2025. There is one current live investigation.

4. Answered above.

​Additional note – the above responses do not reflect the full number of offences involving the use of firearms or imitation firearms that have occurred during the period in question. Alternative offences, such as affray or possession of an offensive weapon have sometimes been preferred. 

5. States of Jersey Police can confirm that no homicides involving firearms have occurred in Jersey between 2000 - 2025. Since 2013, one individual has died by suicide and four individuals sustained serious injuries as a result of suicide attempts involving firearms. Suicides and attempted suicide records involving firearms between 2000 and 2012 are not recorded. Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2000 applies.

Please see the attached information (Table 2) on fatalities and serious injuries resulted from road traffic collisions from 2023 to July 2025.​

We can confirm that the States of Jersey Police (SoJP) do not hold the information you have requested regarding Serious Injuries and Fatalities prior to 2009. Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 applies.

Article 3 - Meaning of “information held by a public authority”

For the purposes of this Law, information is held by a public authority if –

(a)     it is held by the authority, otherwise than on behalf of another person; or

(b)     it is held by another person on behalf of the authority.

Article 23 - Information accessible to applicant by other means

(1) Information is absolutely exempt information if it is reasonably available to the applicant, otherwise than under this Law, whether or not free of charge.

(2) A scheduled public authority that refuses an application for information on this ground must make reasonable efforts to inform the applicant where the applicant may obtain the information.​
