The number of TB-related hospital admissions in each of those years.

Any available information on treatment outcomes, such as the number of cases successfully treated or ongoing.

If any of the information is not available or cannot be disclosed, please provide the data that is available and explain any omissions.

Response

Confirmed diagnoses of tuberculosis each year, from 2020 to 2024 (inclusive), are detailed in the table below. Where fewer than five individuals have been diagnosed in a calendar year, disclosure control is applied to protect the privacy of individuals, and numbers are represented as ‘<5’. Article 25 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied to protect the personal information of individuals concerned.

Owing to small numbers recorded in several years and the potential for individuals to be identifiable, annual breakdowns of the demographic data requested are not provided, as doing so could lead to the identification of individuals. Article 25 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied to protect the privacy of individuals.

Totals for the 5-year period are provided.

23 admissions have been identified from January 2020 to December 2024, including day case investigations for tuberculosis or tuberculosis-related symptoms. Owing to small numbers recorded in some years and the potential for individuals to be identifiable, an annual breakdown is not provided, as doing so could lead to the identification of individuals, and Article 25 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied.

All individuals diagnosed were initiated on anti-tuberculosis therapy:

• 23 are confirmed as completing full long-course treatment (multiple months).

• Two individuals completed initial treatment through Health and Care Jersey.

• One older adult passed away before completion of treatment.

Tuberculosis is a notifiable disease which requires reporting to local public health authorities. Information on symptoms of tuberculosis is available at Tuberculosis (TB) - NHS.
