Please can you let me know the number of police complaints received over investment managers and administrators in Jersey over the past two years?

Please also include the companies and dates of the complaints made.


Clarification was sought requesting the type of complaint, asking to specify particular offences and explaining that the States of Jersey Police do not record crimes based on the occupation of the suspect.

The following clarification was received:

Thank you for your letter dated 29 July 2016. You asked for clarification around complaints: by this I mean complaints about endangerment at work, fraud offences at work and general assault or suspected assault at work including phone calls to police related to or with bearing to such incidents, including incidents of adults employed at any such firms, without giving their personal details, found, lost or who called the Police as they were lost following incidents alleged or said to be of this nature - confusion notwithstanding.

I unfortunately do not know the relevant Jersey legislation however I trust the clarification above will shed light on the relevant legislation covering them.

For further clarification - what I mean by the term complaints: do not need to be crime for which there have been investigations but include any calls to police for help in the circumstances described in the last email below.


The States of Jersey Police may hold some of the information requested but declines to provide it for the reasons described below:

In requesting clarification, the requester was advised that the States Police do not record crimes or other incidents of missing or lost persons, ‘endangerment at work’ or any other incident, based on the occupation of the individual. We do record the occupation of crime suspects, as given by the suspect. Where the occupation is given as ‘Administrator’ it will not necessarily relate to a Trust or Financial Administrator.

Article 16 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 states that: a scheduled authority may refuse to supply information if cost excessive.

The Freedom of Information (Costs) (Jersey) Regulations 2014 put this cost limit at £500 or 12.5 hours work.

Each telephone call requiring police assistance and each crime and incident reported is recorded by the States Police.

To search each and every one of these records for the past two years to establish if the caller, victim or suspect works in the Finance Industry would take in excess of the cost limit above. It may be impossible to tell if the caller worked in finance.

To search every record for one month would exceed the time limit. The month of July has 1400 telephone reports and 900 incident reports. At a conservative 30 seconds to look at each report and longer to extract the information requested from any reports that fit the criteria, the time limit will be reached after researching one month’s telephone reports alone.
The request is declined as cost excessive.
