Request 745836478
I am seeking information in relation to the reporting of vehicles with noisy, defective, or
modified exhausts via the States of Jersey website (or any other official reporting
mechanism). Specifically, I would like to know, for the past 5 years:
1. The total number of reports received;
2. Of those, how many resulted in inspections;
3. Of those inspections, how many led to:
• Warnings (verbal or written);
• Prosecutions; and/or
• Fines being issued.
Response
1. The Scheduled Public Authority (SPA) have received 1627 reports of defected exhausts in
the last 5 years
2 and 3
This information is not held in recorded form; however, the SPA is working towards
improving data around defect letters for future public publication to improve transparency.
To respond to this request would require extraction and manipulation of data to produce new
information. A Scheduled Public Authority is not required to manipulate and create new data
sets; Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 therefore applies.
Article applied
Article 3 - Meaning of “information held by a public authority”
For the purposes of this Law, information is held by a public authority if –
(a) it is held by the authority, otherwise than on behalf of another person; or
(b) it is held by another person on behalf of the authority.
