Subject: FOI Request: Emergency Meeting on Cancer Case Increase
I am writing to request information under Freedom of Information regarding recent concerns about cancer incidence in Jersey. Specifically, I request:
Confirmation of whether an emergency meeting was convened by the Public Health Department or associated public health authorities to discuss a significant increase in cancer cases in Jersey.
Copies of any minutes, agenda, reports, presentations, or correspondence related to this meeting.
Any publicly available data or reports tracking recent trends in cancer incidence in Jersey over the past five years, including 2024 and 2025 data where available.
Any correspondence, reports, internal notes, or communications within the Health Department, or between the Health Department and other governmental or external bodies, including States Members or Ministers, that discuss or raise concerns about a potential link between Covid-19 vaccines administered in Jersey and any observed increase in cancer cases
If any part of this request is exempt from disclosure, I would appreciate a clear explanation citing the relevant FOI exemption.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response within the statutory time.
Response
No emergency meeting has been held regarding cancer incidence.
The latest publicly available cancer data can be accessed through Government of Jersey in the Channel Islands Cancer Report 2007 to 2020:
Channel Islands cancer report 2007 to 2020
As this information is available elsewhere, Article 23 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied.
It is anticipated that the next iteration of the Channel Islands Cancer Report will be available for publication in Quarter 4 of 2025, once the draft report has been shared by NHS Digital. The report will include data up to 2022.
No correspondence or documents could be identified noting any concerns of a link between Covid-19 vaccines and cancer incidence. Keyword searches of the Government of Jersey’s mail system were performed for the five year period preceding the request with nil returns. Senior health officials, including the Medical Officer of Health and Deputy Medical Officer of Health, and the Minister for Health and Social Services were in scope of the searches.
