How many sen/arcs/arps have PAC security systems in place to prevent neurodivergent children from absconding? Currently in a school sen environment and some children can reach handles and run away from staff.
Response
Physical Access Control (PAC) systems, by definition, are electronic security systems which regulate and monitor who can enter specific physical spaces like rooms or buildings through the use of a fob or keycard system.
The use of PAC systems requires consideration of where, and in what circumstances, restrictive access or egress is appropriate.
All Government of Jersey schools have measures in place to keep all children safe and will apply these in the context of their own school environments and individual pupil needs. These measures include where children are identified as at high risk of absconding, where personal risk assessments and consistent management plans will be in place.
Below is a table showing which ARPs have a PAC system, or where this is already planned for installation, all ARPS have alternative security measures in place.
