We are looking at having facts rather than assumptions on the actual numbers of Kenyan people on the island. How many permanent residents, how many work permits were issued last year and this year etc.

Response

As at 19/11/2025, 871 Kenyan nationals possessed valid work permit permissions to work in ersey and approximately 119 Kenyan nationals possessed permission to live and work in Jersey as dependants of work permit holders.
Data on the overall number of permanent residents holding Kenyan nationality is not held by the Customs and Immigration Service (JCIS).  For example, a Kenyan national granted indefinite leave to remain in the United Kingdom, is also free of any immigration restrictions to enter or remain in Jersey and no record would be required to be held by JCIS of that person.  Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) law 2011 therefore applies.

Article applied

Article 3 - Meaning of “information held by a public authority”

For the purposes of this Law, information is held by a public authority if –
(a)     it is held by the authority, otherwise than on behalf of another person; or
(b)     it is held by another person on behalf of the authority.
