How many Island residents have currently contributed more that the required 46 years to Social Security to be eligible to receive a full pension, and what is the projected number to have "over" contributed by May 2028
Response
Employment, Social Security and Housing does not hold data identifying the number of Island residents who have contributed to Social Security for more than 46 years. The Department also does not hold projections of the number of individuals who may have contributed for more than 46 years by May 2028.
The Department does not record or categorise contributions specifically as “over-payments" and, as a result, does not maintain statistics in the format requested.
Contributions to Social Security are mandatory for individuals aged 18 to pensionable age and are designed to provide entitlement to a range of social insurance benefits throughout working life.
As this information is not held, Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 applies.
To assist the requester, the Department can advise that general information on contribution patterns was provided by the Minister for Social Security to the Health and Social Security Scrutiny Panel on 20 October 2025, who stated:
“Approximately 50 people per year who are in their early 60s have a full contribution record and continue to pay contributions up to pension age."
This information is provided for general context only and does not represent data held in relation to individuals who have contributed for more than 46 years.
