Response
1
The standard allocation is 14 beds for rehabilitation, though during winter pressures it is possible to increase up to 17 beds.
2
A total of 44 permanent staff are employed. This includes nursing, therapy, medical, housekeeping, catering and ward clerk staff.
3
There is no fixed length of stay; patients may remain receiving rehabilitation whilst they continue to make progress on their inpatient goals.
4
The monthly cost is £166,667.00, quarterly is £500,000.00, and the yearly budget is £2,000,000. The service operates within budget.
5
If the unit is at capacity, patients awaiting rehabilitation would remain as inpatients at Jersey General Hospital and will receive therapy input from the acute team. Once a bed becomes available, Samares at St Ewolds Rehabilitation Unit will arrange to transfer the next appropriate patient into it.
6
In the first year since opening in May 2024, 120 patients were admitted.
