​Under the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011, I request the following information. I understand this data is held by Children, Young People, Education & Skills (CYPES), within the Student Finance and Skills Jersey teams.

Please provide the following for the last five academic years (e.g., 2019/20 to 2023/24): 

1.  For each academic year, please provide:

a) Total number of new Higher Education applications (HE1) submitted by Jersey residents.

b) Total number of continuing applications (HE2, HE3, etc.).

c) Breakdown of approved applications by study location/mode:

i) On-island higher education (e.g., Highlands College / University College Jersey

ii) Off-island (UK or overseas universities

iii) Distance learning / online (e.g., The Open University or other UK/overseas providers while living in Jersey)

d) Number of applications from mature students (aged 25+). 

2.  For each academic year, please provide:

a) Total number of Jersey residents enrolled in any Higher Education programme, whether or not they applied for Student Finance.

b) Breakdown by:

Age group (18–24, 25+) 

Full-time vs part-time study

Undergraduate vs postgraduate 

3.  For each academic year, please provide the number of Jersey residents who:

a) Stayed in Jersey to study HE.

b) Left the island to study HE in the UK or overseas.

c) Studied HE remotely from Jersey via online/distance-learning providers (e.g., Open University, UK universities, international providers).

Please specify school leavers (18-year-olds) separately from adult learners (25+). 

4.  Please provide:

a) ​Any data held by CYPES on the number of Jersey residents enrolled with The Open University (OU) in the period requested.

b) Any data on Jersey residents studying via other distance-learning providers (e.g., Arden, University of London Online, online-only degree programmes).

c) Whether the department receives Student Finance applications from OU/online learners and, if so, how many per year. 

5.  If held, please provide:

a) Completion/graduation numbers for Jersey residents studying HE over the same period.

b) Dropout/withdrawal rates for Jersey residents (on-island, off-island, and distance learners). 

If any part of this request cannot be supplied, please provide the data that is available along with an explanation.
