Request 796975484
Dear Freedom of Information Team,
I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 regarding the operation of Jersey’s on island electricity generation assets.
Specifically, I would like to request the following data:
1. Total Hours of On Island Electricity Generation
For each calendar year:
2024
2025 (or most recent data available)
Please provide:
The total number of hours that Jersey Electricity operated on island generation assets. A breakdown by generation unit, if available (e.g., La Collette diesel engines, La Collette steam/HFO plant, gas turbines at La Collette, and Queen’s Road).
2. Breakdown by Fuel Type For the same periods (2024 and 2025):
The number of operating hours during which heavy fuel oil (HFO) was used, including consumption in litres.
The number of operating hours during which diesel was used, including consumption in litres.
If recorded, the number of operating hours using any other fuels (e.g., gas turbines if fuelled separately). If fuel use is tracked in consumption rather than hours, please provide the available metrics (e.g., tonnes of HFO, litres of diesel, etc.) and any supporting documentation on how these relate to generator operating hours.
Format Request:
Please provide the data in a machine readable format where possible (CSV, XLSX or similar). If some information must be redacted, please supply the remainder.
Clarification requested
Please confirm if you are requesting what electricity the Scheduled Public Authority (SPA) provides the JEC from the Energy Recovery Facility, as a by product of waste processing.
Clarification received
I am not seeking the volume of electricity generated by the ERF, what I am seeking is the volume of electricity produced by on-island power generation using the HFO and Diesel engines. I appreciated that these assets are owned by Jersey Electricity, but said generation contributes to Jersey's overall fuel mix
Response
The Scheduled Public Authority (SPA) does not hold the requested information, therefore Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law applies.
Article applied
Article 3 - Meaning of “information held by a public authority”
For the purposes of this Law, information is held by a public authority if –
(a) it is held by the authority, otherwise than on behalf of another person; or
(b) it is held by another person on behalf of the authority.
