Response
Please see the attached response from States of Jersey Police.
In response to the BBC News article dated 4 April 2026, titled “‘Steady increase’ in Jersey sex offenders”, it is not possible to provide a breakdown of Jersey-born versus non-Jersey-born individuals for the cited figure of 211 registered sexual offenders.
The figure of 211 was taken from the 2025 MAPPA Annual Report and represents a historical annual aggregate, rather than a live operational cohort. Birthplace information is not routinely reported at an aggregate level within MAPPA annual reporting, and historic records cannot be retrospectively analysed in this way.
The Birthplace and Number by Location charts shown are based solely on live records available at the time of reporting. Operational data changes over time due to relocation, movement between jurisdictions, and case closure. As a result, demographic analysis, including birthplace or migration-related data, can only be provided for current live cohorts and should not be directly compared to previously published annual totals.
The Number by Location chart reflects individuals’ current status at the point of reporting, including residence in the Jersey community, custody in Jersey or the UK, or relocation outside Jersey. All figures represent a snapshot in time and are subject to change.
