I would like to find out how many people were redirected from A&E triage in 2025, to JDOC, GP, etc. Or made to pay for things that aren’t an Accident or Emergency.

Response

It is not possible to identify data on the number of people redirected or turned away from the Emergency Department (ED) at the point of triage during 2025, as there is no ability within the ED dataset to capture where a patient was redirected at triage rather than receiving care through ED.

Records are held for ED attendances categorised as ‘Primary Care’, which identify cases where care / treatment was provided in ED when it was considered that the presenting complaint could have been managed through Primary Care services. Monthly data for ED attendances categorised as ‘Primary Care’ in 2025 are detailed in the table, though the category field is not mandatory and is not consistently populated. As such, the figures may represent a minimum value.

Records for charges raised by the Patient Finance Team on behalf of Health and Care Jersey have been reviewed; no records have been identified for any activity directly related to treatment received within the Accident and Emergency Department prior to the ‘Eligibility to Funded Healthcare’ policy change on 13 April 2026.
