Public money used towards university grants

Good morning. I am requesting information on how much public money has been given in grants at all levels to people for university grants including tutorial fees and accommodation and living grants since 2000. 

I would like the breakdown by each year and how many people applied for the grants each year. This is for undergraduate university applications. 

Aldo it epuld be very useful if tge information invluded if the applicants pulled out of their degrees after year 1 etc.

Response

The table provided in attachment 1 contains information in relation to funding provided for undergraduate University applications since 2020. This includes tutorial fees and accommodation and living grants. This has been broken down by academic year, with withdrawal numbers also being provided. The Scheduled Public Authority (SPA) are not able to provide figures dating previous to 2020 due to retention timeframes, therefore this is not held, and Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 is applied.

Student numbers will fluctuate over a period of time due to various reasons, such as students who withdrew from courses but did not inform Student Finance at that point in time. Also, the status of the student is determined by the last entry on the students record. Data is taken from a live database and as such changes to figures, on this basis, can occur.

For the purposes of this Law, information is held by a public authority if –

(a) it is held by the authority, otherwise than on behalf of another person; or

(b) it is held by another person on behalf of the authority.​
